The Crosby family lived in Thompson, Connecticut, and were involved in farming and the textile business, particularly the Thompson Manufacturing Company. Among the papers in this collection is correspondence to Stephen Crosby and his son Stephen (1802-1884), deeds and financial records for both men, and account books for Stephen who was a fuller, dyer and also a sawmill operator. Also includes letters to Susan Larned Crosby before her marriage to Stephen, including several from a suitor, Milton Joslin, whom she later rejected; correspondence to George S. Crosby; bills and receipts of S. Crosby & Sons; papers of Stephen's brother Elijah Crosby, including an inventory of his estate; probate court records of Talcott Crosby; and records of the Baptist Church of Thompson, including articles of faith, the covenant, undated lists of members, and drafts of letters to individuals seeking dismissal from the church. Seemingly unrelated to the Crosby family are the deeds of Joseph D. Jacobs of Thompson, Connecticut, and correspondence of Joseph Alton, of Webster, Massachusetts.
